My Deaf Church and Saturday night preaching is informal.

The sermons below were written and preached at St. Martin's, Ellisville on special occasions.

A Powerful Good Friday Message [manuscript]
Again and again in the New Testament, we hear that Christ died for our sins “once and for all.”   Finished!   “It is done!”   Why do we come here and dwell at the foot of the cross every year? ...

Rev. Emily ~ Sermons & Resources beyond St. Thomas

Maundy Thursday ~ a favorite [manuscript]
Peter tells Jesus, "Lord, … You will never wash my feet."
I think some us know that feeling.
and it’s not just a question of Jesus being too good for that.
It’s a question of the state of my feet! ...

Sermon Celebrating Community February 2015 [manuscript]
Jesus Healing Peter’s mother-in-law in Mark 1. The energy of Good News! Storyline offers pattern of Intercession, Resurrection, Diaconal Empowering. That house becomes a house of God, a church. We similarly are empowered in this House of God for ministry beyond ourselves. Here in the ebb and  flow of our faith lives, we raise each other up for ministy. … Ends with the congregation raising each other up by the hand and the sounds of laughter as they enjoy the interaction.

Sermon in a Time of Anxiety January 2018 [manuscript]
Today’s demon in Mark 1 says it out loud to Jesus:  Have you come to destroy us?!?!?
Andrew Lester, the author of this
red book, The Angry Christian
(Westminster John Knox 2003) says that anger is a natural response to threat, danger, the possibility of destruction.
The problem is, unlike THIS demon, we can be angry without knowing why,
and we can be angry without even knowing that we are angry.

In this 2016 interview from Michael Atty's Senior Capstone Project for Eden Seminary,
I tell how I was drawn into Deaf ministry, and share some humble stories,
insights and advice for those entering ministry.  I love my work. Thanks be to God!
